Xfce 4.6.2 Released

The second bugfix-release of xfce 4.6 has been released.

This release features a lot of updated translations and fixes some bugs or regressions with new GTK+ versions.

Xfce 4.6.1 Released

The first bugfix-release of xfce 4.6 has been released.

Thanks to all the people who have been using xfce 4.6 and took the time and effort to submit bugreports for stuff that wasn't quite working the way it is supposed to. We have been able to fix several issues during the past few weeks.

Also, thanks to all the translators, several translations have been improved and completed since the release of 4.6.0.

Xfce 4.6 Final Released

After more than two years of development, Xfce 4.6.0 has just been released.

Xfce 4.6 features a new configuration backend, a new settings manager, a brand new sound mixer, and several huge improvements to the session manager and the rest of Xfce's core components. A list of all the changes since the last release candidate can be found on this page.

Xfce 4.6 Release Candidate 1 (Capybara) released

Hello everybody,

Shortly after Beta 3, we are pleased to announce the first Release Candidate for Xfce 4.6. If no serious bugs are found, this is going to be the state of the final release (plus translation updates). This Release Candidate is the first 4.6 release that comes with graphical installers for the main components and goodies.

The release comes with several fixes for critical bugs and crashes found in Beta 3. Unfortunately, there were a few occasions where we had to break the string-freeze in order to improve error reporting (sorry to the translators).

Xfce 4.6 Beta 3 (Tuco-Tuco) released

I am pleased to announce the release of Xfce 4.6 BETA-3.

Just like with the previous BETA, this release comes with a lot of bugfixes but is not expected to be 100% stable. This is why we want to encourage you to test this release to it's limits and tell us what breaks.

Ofcourse, as this is a development release, we do not advise anyone to use this on a production environment just yet.

With this release, we enter a string-freeze period until the release of 4.6.0 final. This will give the translators a few weeks time to update their translations.

Xfce 4.6 Beta 2 (Hopper) released

The second Beta was delayed for 2 weeks, but it was worth it.
every feature we made a freeze-exception for has made it into this release.
This means a lot of bugs have been fixed this time aswell:

- The keyboard-shortcuts for xfwm4 can be configured again. (now with conflict handling)
- Session-management has been improved, apps will now be automatically restarted if they die unexpected
- It is now possible to set the desktop wallpaper from the thunar right-click menu

This are just a few changes everybody is likely to notice.

Once again, the translators have done a great job on translating Xfce in their native language.
We will probably see Xfce 4.6 be translated in more languages then ever before thanks to their hard work.

Xfce 4.4.3 released

Just because we're gearing up to release 4.6.0, it doesn't mean we've forgotten the 4.4 branch. A bunch of bug fixes had accumulated since 4.4.2, so we have a new release for you.

As usual, the stable branch only contains bug fixes, and no new features. The list of changes from 4.4.2 is available here.

Xfce 4.6 BETA-1 ('Fuzzy') released

Hello everybody,

We are one month since the release of Xfce 4.6 ALPHA. And now it's time to release the first BETA, codename 'Fuzzy'.

A lot of bugs have been fixed in this release; a few highlights:
- Xfwm4 can now detect if a program is unresponsive. It will show a dialog to let the user kill it.
- Xfce4-session will start up significantly faster by starting apps in parallel where possible.
- It is possible to configure the keyboard layout.
- Toggling event-sounds with libcanberra + gtk 2.14 is now possible (meaning: you can turn them off).

And lets not forget the translations, thanks to them Xfce 4.6.0 will be available to a lot of people in their native language.

Of course, this is still a beta. This means that not everything is working perfectly yet.

Xfce 4.6 ALPHA ('Pinkie') released

Hello everybody,

After about 18 months of development, we are pleased to announce the release of Xfce 4.6 ALPHA, codename 'Pinkie'.

Xfce 4.6 is going to be the next major release of the Xfce desktop environment. The previous release was 4.4 with the last bugfix release being 4.4.2 released in December 2007.

The release schedule for Xfce 4.6 is available to the public on the wiki.

Xfce 4.6 comes with a lot of new components, some of them replacing old code and some of them being completely new. A preliminary ChangeLog for the alpha release can be found at this location

As this is a development-release, we do not claim it is perfect. Here is a list of issues we have already identified.
